Welcome to Midwestern Miss!

I’m Nichole Sheley, an agriculture communications college student and a daughter of Christ. Originally from Central Illinois, I now live in West Central Illinois after moving to the stillness of the country.

When I became very organic, I researched everything and decided to eliminate toxins from cleaning products, sparking my natural living journey.

After moving to a rural area and reevaluating my diet, I realized that the Standard American Diet didn’t contribute to our well-being and may have caused my current health issues.

I have been battling autoimmune diseases for over 29 years. This motivates me to live a clean and healthy life for my family!

I strive to use natural, whole, and organic ingredients whenever possible. My family also enjoys regular fermented foods and homemade bone broth daily.
Our family has embraced a simple, homestead lifestyle for over 12 years, growing our food and living naturally for over 20 years.

This experience motivates me to create a healthier lifestyle for my family and encourage our readers to make small, healthy changes over time.

5 Fun Facts About Mary

  1. nI’m the oldest of two children, raised by my grandparents, and originally from Springfield. I moved back to Springfield to pursue a degree in agriculture to help my family through homesteading. We now live in the evergrowing cornfields of Illinois.
  2. Gardening & harvesting our food + cooking healthier versions of comfort food has become my passion!
  3. I am a full-time college student and I have a college blog where I share all about it!
  4. Previous job(s): Human Resources Manager, Store Engagement Manager, Business Operations
  5. I started my first blog in 2014 to share my crazy city girl-to-country life antics. In 2016, it evolved into Midwestern Miss.

When we aren’t busy wrangling little ones… or cattle, goats, chickens, and ducks, we are working hard on building our homestead dreams from scratch.

This means constantly reevaluating and testing processes to find what works best for our family & sharing what we learn along the way.

I honestly never would have imagined or planned this life. I certainly never dreamed of living my own version of Little House on the Prairie.

Or that I could make a career out of a blog while living in the middle of nowhere. And sometimes with some really sketchy internet!
